Hodell-Natco Hosts Industry Training
Excitement was in the air last week when Hodell-Natco hosted on-site training for the 22 students who attended Fastener Training Week in Cleveland, OH. This week-long, intensive fastener industry training is led by the Fastener Training Institute (FTI) and the Industrial Fastener Institute (IFI) in their mission to advance fastener use, reliability and safety. Hodell-Natco partnered with these highly reputable industry educators to host a course on rotational capacity (RoCap) testing.
The subject of RoCap testing becomes extremely interesting when Ed Stash (pictured below), one of Hodell-Natco’s top engineers, teaches the class. Ed not only taught the students about the meaning, the objective, and the importance of RoCap testing- he demonstrated it with a BANG! To visually display the efficiency of a lubricant on an A325 hex bolt, Ed attached the bolt and nut to Hodell-Natco’s RoCap testing machine. To show his students (who were standing at a safe distance) just how important proper lubricity and torque are to a bolted assembly, he fired up the torque on his testing equipment until a 1 ¼” hex bolt literally snapped and shot across Hodell-Natco’s testing lab.
The students, of course, loved this live demonstration! It certainly drove home the point about RoCap testing being an invaluable quality measure. Probably the coolest part about Ed’s test was that he built the RoCap testing machine himself! Ed combined research with his powerful engineering mind to create an incredible quality tool for Hodell-Natco. With it, we can easily measure torque and tension values and provide our customers with the quality certifications they need to ensure they receive fasteners they can rely on.
